When that happens we cash in a lot of extra money for our coal and oil and can share it with less fortunate countries. It's perhaps no wonder that the only party that ran promising an end to the carbon tax, the Conservatives, did not even manage 5% of the popular vote in the last election.

That's a "real world" assessment, too.

But I agree, there are limits to how high the tax can go, since applying border tariffs within N America is not realistic. It makes no sense from a climate point of view to move cement making from BC to Alberta or Washington State.Andy Shttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16313161977123410684noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25163458.post-49183318079239992652013-08-20T21:10:46.558-04:002013-08-20T21:10:46.558-04:00Or we could look at an assessment of those working...Or we could look at an assessment of those working in the "real" world.

http://www.bcchamber.org/advocacy/policy/provincial_gov/finance/bcs_costly_carbon_tax.htmlPaul Kusterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02144851039716057281noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25163458.post-7973487499904155872013-08-20T17:41:03.372-04:002013-08-20T17:41:03.372-04:00Kathy Harrison of UBC has an excellent rebuttal of...Kathy Harrison of UBC has an excellent rebuttal of Nickson's error-filled op-ed, in the Vancouver Sun today.

http://www.vancouversun.com/life/please+facts+right/8810068/story.html

Andy SkuceAndy Shttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16313161977123410684noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25163458.post-6501257056414545742013-08-19T19:29:55.914-04:002013-08-19T19:29:55.914-04:00Relax. I'm just being patient and awaiting the publication of the response so as not to scoop anyone.

In the meantime, I'll say this: The wattsupwiththat posts present some interesting-sounding arguments, but don't do any of the requisite the math. Cross-border traffic has certainly increased in BC, faster than it increased in other provinces. But even if every additional vehicle fueled up, which is unlikely, it could only account for a small fraction of the change in consumption in BC. Make your case. Defend your position.
